ONGOING EXHIBITIONS IN ROME

Where:MAXXI. Via G. Reni, 2
What: This is a vast exhibition dedicated to the great opera of photos by Ugo Mulas, a great collection of what can only be described as contemporary art. The exhibits are approx. 600 and have been divided between Rome and Milan where the same exhibition is running at the very same time, followed by the unification of all masterpieces for the biggest showing in Turin in June. These intriguing photos illustrate the art in Italy between the 50s and 70s and you will find different styles portrayed including places of interest that the artist frequented, and a great collection of profiles of great artists of that era and much much more.

What: Presented by Stephan Berg, this exhibition presents the evolving path of one of america’s great artistic photographers, Gregory Crewdson. Works on show begin at the very beginning of this artists career back in the late 1980’s up until the latest collection which was created betwee 2003 -2005. This european tour of photo’s has just this one stop in Italy and is not to be missed. Collection includes the series of photo’s produced in the 90s known as ‘Natural Wonder’ and ‘Dream House’..

What: Presented in the great Palazzo Quirinale in the ‘Sala delle Bandiere’ (Room of the flags) and the ‘Sale della Galleria di Papa Alessandro VII’ ( Rooms of the gallery of Pope Alexander VII) that within themselves are a sight to behold, you will find the latest exhibition Nostoi. Great Masterpieces of art ranging from statues and artefacts that hav been splendidly brought back to life for us to appreciate from times gone by. In total there is 68 archelogical pieces on display that have all be returned to Italy by american museums that had them in their care due to illegal exportation in years gone by.

What: ‘Rosso Pompeiano’ actually refers to the color with which entire walls were painted back in the roman ages and used greatly by those wishing to display their wealth. This exhibition offers a collection of roman paintings from which most have been derived from the National Archeological Museum of Naples and taken from the walls of the buildings of the towns surrounding the great Vesuvius, many of which were excavated directly from Pompei. It is also a perfect chance to compare the differences between works deriving from the two regions, the roman productions and thise of the Campanian.

What: In occasion of the 500 years that the Basilica St. Peters was founded a great collection of photo’s has been compiled that illustrates the different stages of this magnificent church and how it has evolved over the years. 90 photos are on show of varying sizes catching the splendor of such a breathtaking place of christianity.

What: The idea of this exhibition was to allow the public to geta cloer look and feel for contemporary chinese art. The collection includes some of the latest works of art by the likes of Chen Chieh-Jen, Liu Xiaodong, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu (some of the greatest artistes of our generation). These artists use their worl to express the impact that society today has on our personal experiences.
