Rome has two rivaling Premier League clubs: AS Roma and SS Lazio, whose supporters detest one another for differences in political background, geographical location within the city, and the history of the rivalry. The Roman fans' alliances to one or the other team represent not only a recreational hobby but also a statement of who you are and where you come from.
The supporters of the "lupi", or wolves, as Roma players are nicknamed, are centralized within the city limits and famously like to use the dialect, chant loudly and generally act as brassily Roman as they can.
The "laziali", or Lazio fans, represent the suburban residents of Rome.

The season 2006/07 finished with a victory for Inter as the champions of the Italian serie A league. Rome has not won this title since the season 2000/01 and Lazio close behind in 1999/00 so this year will see Rome and Lazio battling it out for the title, a mission proved slightly easier by the fact that Juventus has been relegated to Serie B due to the controversial football scandal of the season 2005/06. The most threatening clubs this season are Inter and Rome.
