Those lucky enough to be in Rome May 18, 2013 will have the unique chance to visit its world-famous museums (and the less known too) by night. Every year many events are organized to give visitors a different perspective not only of the works kept in the museums but of the museums themselves: concerts, dance performances and conferences will complete the noctural experience to underline the role of the museum as a place of social exchange.

The date is set but the full program is not available yet. We’ll bring you a selection of our favorite appointments as soon as a list is made official. In the meantime you can follow the developments through Twitter with the hashtag #NDMroma13.

The “Roma Chocolate 2013” returns also this year on the banks of the little lake of Eur.

The event, will welcome the many visitors for 4 days from the 11^th to the 14^th of April 2013. The  Entrance to the exhibition is free, you will only have to pay a fee for tastings.

As every year you will find many stands from companies all over Italy: they will present both traditional and new creations, made all with chocolate. You will be able to find many interesting things rangin from hammers, shoes, keys to irons boards, tools of all kind made ​​entirely of chocolate, pralines, everything presented in every conceivable cocholate flavor, from the classic dark, white and milk chocolate to the most peculiar ones like pistachio, cinnamon or ginger. And of course you will also have a waterfall of chocolate from where you can enjoy skewers of strawberries.

This year’s program includes the free workshops for children who will be taught how to make chocolates like real little chefs with lots of caps and tools of the trade, for the adults instead will be offered at a cost of 5 euro tasting chocolate with wine or grappa.

The visit is permitted by the morning until 10 in the evening.

Once upon a time lived in the kingdom of Duloc a greenish, foul-mouthed and a bit ‘gruff ogre named Shrek.

His perfect life was quiet and happy until he was disturbed by a horde of enchanted creatures guilty of messing up his peaceful swamp. The creatures were the victims of an edict of Lord Farquaad, the local prince, who wanted all the enchanted creatures out of his kingdom. Among them, there was a friendly and talkative Donkey, who soon became Shrek’s faithful companion of adventures.

In an effort to solve this annoying situation, Shreck and Donkey head together to the castle of Lord Farquaad whose only concern however, is to be crowned king and this can only happen if he marry a princess.
This is how our two heroes end up trying to save Princess Fiona, locked in the tower of a castle guarded by a dragoness as  the deal with the stupid and wicked prince is: if Shrek will liberate Fiona, he can have back his quiet life in the swamp…

Will the extravagant character win the heart of his Princess? Will he be able to simply go back to his quiet but lonely swamp after having made so many friends and living such and adventure? Join Shrek and his loyal friend Donkey in their adventure to rescue Princess to find ithe answers!

The musical version of this Pixar hit that has been a box office hit in New York, London and Paris and now  is also in in Rome at the “Teatro Olimpico” from 14th February until 24th February 2013

After nearly two years from his last concert in Italy, is back to Rome the number one DJ in the world: David Guetta. The thirty-five French artist who began his career as a disc jockey, has become one of the most famous DJs in the world.

Born on November 7th 1967 in Paris to a French father and a Belgian mother at the age of 17 years began his career as a DJ in the Broad Club in Paris and that since his debut as a singer has sold over 3 million albums and 15 million singles worldwide, collaborating with famous pop and hip-hop artists as Akon, Kelly Rowland, Black Eyed Peas, Chris Willis, TX, Estelle, Fergie, Flo Rida, Kid Cudi, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO, Rihanna, Lil ‘Wayne, Ludacris, K’naan, Kylie Minogue, Taio Cruz, Snoop Dogg, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Will.I.Am, Jennifer Hudson, Jessie J, Sia, Chris Brown.

David Guetta will perform in a special live set, a real show of music and special stage effects, between lighting and original images transmitted by maxi led screens. In addition to the major hit, the king of the clubbing side of the Alps will present the new unreleased tracks contained in Nothing but the Beat 2.0, an updated version of the previous self-titled album, released in September.

The appointment for one of the Italian dates is February 2nd at the Palazzo dei congressi.

The Romans wanted to defeat every enemy that stood on their path hindering the empire’s growth and roads were built to achieve the end. Roads played significant role in moving armies, supplies, reinforcement, trade, power and wealth.

Appian way, which connects Rome to south Italy, was one of the main roads Romans desperately needed.

Appius Claudius, Roman censor, constructed dirt road with stones and mortar stretching from Rome to Capua for 200km. Part of the road was started and finished in 312 BC. The Appian to date has the longest straight road in Europe (64 km).

To mention few of the important historical events that happened on this road:

In the 71 BC, 6000 slaves were slain by the Romans after their revolt ended in defeat at the hands of the Roman Army. In the WWII, Allied Forces landed at Nettuno to capture Rome penetrating through Appian way but the Germans resisted until their defeat in 1944. And Abebe Bekila won 1960 summer olympics, that passed through this way.

Long kilometers of the Appian way are now open to the public for walking, jogging, bicycling etc.

The following monuments are found along the Appian way: Baths of Caracalla (at the start), catacomb of San Callisto and a small church (chiesa del Domine Quo Vadis) on Via Ardeatina a street that branches off Appian Way.

After four years since their last studio album and three since the release of “Greatest Hits 2001-2009″, the “Rasmus” arrive in here in Rome. The Rasmus were formed in late 1994 when the group members still attending high school and where they began to be known simply by Rasmus, then the changed in year 2000 by “The rasmus”. in 1995 they released their first album with this PEEPe and won a gold record and a Grammy award in Finland. With their second album Playboys they won another gold record.And the band despite the young age of the members, they began to be more and more present in the Finland charts. The band’s third album, Hell of a Tester, was released in 1998 launched by the video of the single Liquid who won the title song of the year by music critics Finland. the Fourth album was published in 2001 titled Into, and like the previous albums, this was an incredible success in Finland and finished at the top of the charts. In 2003 they recorded their new album Dead Letters, which was published all over Europe and climbed the top of the charts in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Finland of course, and in that year became even here in Italy with the single In the Shadaw, and it was through this single that the band was known in other countries of the world collecting a total of six gold records and two platinum. And finally, their last albums are Hide from the Sun(2005),Black Roses(2008),and The Rasmus(2012).

Rome June 2012: Eataly has opened its biggest store in the world. The current location is in an abandoned air terminal built for the 1990 Italy World Cup event. Four storey complex with 20 restaurants, bars, coffee and diverse specialist markets for cheese, ham, pasta, olives oils and wines.

Oscar Farinetti said: “Welcome to the biggest place in the world dedicated to Italian food. Our aim is to make it the third most visited place after the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums”.

Seen the aftermath of January 2007 Turin debut and later succeeding in opening 18 others (eight in Italy) including New York and Tokyo; Farinetti seem to give correct business forecast but don’t count your chickens before they are hatched.

Anyway, people have started chatting and twitting about this structure that gave a sense of joy for the employment (400 workers) it created in a time of economic crack down and restoring the abandoned store to life.

Eataly is not just a food mega store with the best Italian quality but kind of school that teaches children responsible food consumption and be food friendly.

Those visiting Rome for few days can take the opportunity to enjoy foodies in this station in just few  underground or train stops from the main tourist attractions of Rome.

Temprature in Rome during summer is too hot due to congested buildings, large number of people, climate change and more. Waiting outside the Vatican Museum under certain circumstances is boring.  Visitors run short of time before fully enjoying the museums, due to a large number of crowd waiting to enter the museum.

The new schedule gives visitors more romantic time and plenty of time to enjoy art with calm in a lovely cool night weather.

Since Vatican Museum started opening at night to the public three years back, the number of visitors has edged as much as thirty thousand visitors in last year alone.

The following museums are open by night: Pio Clementino, Egyptian, GallerieSuperiori (Candelabri, Arazzi e Carte Geografiche), Stanze Raffaello, Appartamento Borgia, Modern Religion Art Collection and Sistine Chapel. The schedule runs May 4th through July 13th but August is closed. And again restarting from September 7 to October 26.

The night visit is from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Friday. The last admission into the museum is 9.30 p.m.
