Eataly Opens In Rome

eataly romeRome June 2012: Eataly has opened its biggest store in the world. The current location is in an abandoned air terminal built for the 1990 Italy World Cup event. Four storey complex with 20 restaurants, bars, coffee and diverse specialist markets for cheese, ham, pasta, olives oils and wines.

Oscar Farinetti said: “Welcome to the biggest place in the world dedicated to Italian food. Our aim is to make it the third most visited place after the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums”.

Seen the aftermath of January 2007 Turin debut and later succeeding in opening 18 others (eight in Italy) including New York and Tokyo; Farinetti seem to give correct business forecast but don’t count your chickens before they are hatched.

Anyway, people have started chatting and twitting about this structure that gave a sense of joy for the employment (400 workers) it created in a time of economic crack down and restoring the abandoned store to life.

Eataly is not just a food mega store with the best Italian quality but kind of school that teaches children responsible food consumption and be food friendly.

Those visiting Rome for few days can take the opportunity to enjoy foodies in this station in just few  underground or train stops from the main tourist attractions of Rome.

Metro B: from Termini direction Laurentina and get off Piramide (Ostiense Station).

Train: from Tiburtina Station direction Fiumicino Airport and get off Piramide (Ostiense Station) .

Rome: Rugby Appointment

Rome 17 November: Italy versus New Zealand rugby Test Match. The visitors are favorite but Italy is not an easy team too.

New Zealand all blacks are famous for Haka (traditional New Zealand dance) show, which over the years has become identity of the national team.

In the RBS Six Nations games, Italy is scheduled to play France on February 3rd, Wales (last year’s winners) on February 23rd and Ireland on March 16.

Rugby is believed to has been first created in 1823 football game when a pupil -William Webb Ellis- picked up the ball and started running. Unfortunately there is no evidence to back this incident.

In a rugby game there are 15 players per team and play for 80 minutes. Amazingly the shape of the ball is oval but not for technical reasons rather for the fact that the first ball made by a coddler was from a pig’s bladder and when inflated became oval.

Rome Chinatown: diversity is beauty

Chinatown in Rome is booming. Yes, compared to other Chinatowns, the later is 15 years old phenomenon and its growth is fascinating. Restaurants, shops, travel agents, hotels, market, internet and telephone centres are blossoming in this little town.

Regarding Chinatown, the first thing that one imagines is a beautifully adorned gate which over the years has become an identifying landmark for Chinese in exile. In Rome the landmark is not available but the area is noted for its multi-ethnicity.

After busy weekdays explicitly on Saturdays, the area is jam-packed with people of varied tribes, nations and languages to acquire the best of fresh fish, meat, vegetables available by the open market inside Chinatown. Asians, Africans, Latinos and Italians flock to this quarter for cheap shopping and also to find shops that specialize in homeland merchandise.

Chinatown Rome’s diversity is what gives it beauty. It is nice little town full of cultures interesting to visit.

After hunting down all major tourist attractions in Rome, visiting such an area is a good experience. Cheap souvenirs, African objet d’art, clothes and variety of dishes (Chinese, Indian, Eritrean, Philipine, Bangladesh etc) are a plus to the shopping experience in Rome.

This area of Rome, though, close to Rome Termini Central Station remains unexplored by many tourists. Interested clients are able to get information from Hotel Des Artistes’ staff of visiting Rome Chinatown.

Chinatown located on one of Rome’s seven hills – Esquillino- is five minutes walk from Hotel Des Artistes.

Rome Marathon: The Run and The Fun

img-1203021500-maratonaSunday, March 18, 2012 at9am from the Via dei Fori Imperiali- starts the 18th Rome Marathon. The racecourse passes all major tourist attractions in Rome, namely the Coloseum, Roman Forum, Mouth of Truth, Circo Massimo, Piramide,  St Paul Basilica, Tiberina island, Navona Square, Castle St Angel,  St Peter Basilica, Campidoglio, music auditorium and many others. Perfect for a fun and sight-filled run through Rome.

International, national and continental competitors are flocking from all corners of the earth to Rome for the 18th marathon edition. Cristal clear, no one can foretell who will be the winner, but like all other major-long-distance-competitions this also might be dominated by East African champs. Nevertheless Brazilian fans, as in any World Cup competition- won’t be satisfied with runner up, the same is true with any elite runner, i.e. the thirst to win internationally sealed marathon race, on the hill tops of thousand-years-history of athletic tournaments.

In the past half-decade, like other long-distance-competitions, the Rome marathon was under the East-African-runners dominion. Kenyan gems have won the five highest podiums of the last six consecutive Rome marathon chapters and Ethiopian athletes seem coming back- fifty years to the legendary barefoot runner Abbebe Bekila-  dominated  last year’s table with seven runners in the best-ten list. Is someone from Italy going to make it to a podium higher than the 2006 second result? But as the proverb goes, ‘Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched’.

The Rome marathon-day is a two-day event. Side by side to the International marathon is the non-competitive Rome Fun race, this is more a leisure walk than a race. Parents, friends, class mates, lovers, co-workers and so on use this event to walk & talk the 4km distance coined “La Stracittadina”.

Those who want to participate on one of the two occasions can visit this site:-

Runners, art hunters or  admirers can take this opportunity to imagine the knowledge and wisdom of the Most High that vested upon the great grandparents of Rome. Decorations, architectures and the history that accompanies the ancient sites add flavour to the whole event.

At the end of a busy day running, filming, shopping, visiting points of interests, jogging and etcetera come and relax in Des Artistes and Yes Hotel Rome  which are ready to satisfy the needs of everyone. These hotels are located within a 5 minute walk from Termini Central Station, three underground stops from the marathon start/finish line, easily accessible from the major tourist attractions and extremely reasonable prices for your stay.
