Once in Rome… - Travel Tips

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Rome’s public transport net consists of three underground lines (A, B and B1, C), buses, trams and urban trains.

Tickets
The same type of ticket is used for all transports. There are different times of validity though:

BIT: € 1,50 valid for 100 minutes from the very first validation. Please note: no more than one journey per metro line is allowed
ROMA 24H: € 7,00 valid for 24 hours from the first validation. Unlimited journeys within the territory of the Municipality of Rome
ROMA 48H: € 12,50 valid for 48 hours from the first validation. Unlimited journeys within the territory of the Municipality of Rome
ROMA 72H: € 18,00 valid for 72 hours from the first validation. Unlimited journeys within the territory of the Municipality of Rome
CIS: € 24,00 valid for 7 days from the first validation, that is to say until midnight of the seventh day counting from its validation. Unlimited journeys within the territory of the Municipality of Rome

Where to buy them
- vending machines at each metro station- any tobacco shops (T – Tabaccaio)
- most of newspaper stands
Please note: make sure to purchase your ticket before getting on trams and buses, as they are not provided with vending machines on board on a regular base.

Working hours
METRO LINE A, B and B1

first departure: 5.30 amlast departure: 11.30 pm. Friday and Saturday: 1.30 am

METRO LINE C
first departure: 5.30 amlast departure: 11.30 pm every day

Buses and trams: from 5.30 am to 11 pm / 12 am according to the line.

Afterwards nearly 20 night buses operate on the same roots.

TAXI
Licensed and authorized taxis are white, provided with “TAXI” black and yellow sign on the top of the car. Both the licence and the rate table are displayed on the seat backrest. Beware of those which do not satisfy any of these conditions.Many do accept credit card payment: ask the driver if he has a machine before you get on his car.

Fares for taxi journeys vary according to mileage and baggages, to which a fixed initial fee has to be applied as follows:

• from departing point on weekdays (from 6:00 to 22:00) € 3.00
• from departing point on weekdays on Sundays and public holidays (from 6:00 to 22:00) € 4.50
• from departing point every nights (from 22:00 to 6:00) € 6.50

Fixed fares are set for journeys to/from airports, inclusive of all extra charges.
From Fiumicino Airport to within the Aurelian Walls and vice versa: € 48.00
From Ciampino Airport to within the Aurelian Walls and vice versa: € 30.00
Please note that Hotel Des Artistes is located within the Aurelian walls, therefore our guests benefit from these special fares.

ROMA PASS
A convenient option to travel around Rome and visit her museums at cheaper prices is by using the Roma Pass. The fruit of an agreement between Rome City Hall and the local public transport company, Roma Pass is a special tourist-cultural card that provides the owner with the following benefits:

3 DAYS ROMA PASS – 36.00 €
• 2 museums: free entry to 2 museums and / or archaeological sites of your choice among those in the list (all the major museums are part of it, except for the Vatican Musuems; free admission encompasses the exhibition held in the museum)
• Discounts and reduced price ticketing for all the other museums included in the list, as well as for events, exhibitions and tourist services
• Metro, buses & trams: illimited use of any public transports within the territory of the Municipality of Rome.Valid 3 days (including the validation day, until midnight of the third day). It is validated on the first visited site/museum and/or the first journey on the city’s public transport network.

48 HOURS ROMA PASS – 28.00 €
• 1 museum: free entry to 1 museum and / or archaeological sites of your choice among those included in the list (all the major museums are part of it, except for the Vatican Musuems; free admission encompasses the exhibition held in the museum)
• Discounts and reduced price ticketing for all the other museums included in the list, as well as for events, exhibitions and tourist services
• Metro, buses & trams: illimited use of any public transports within the territory of the Municipality of Rome.Valid 48 hours (starting from the validation time). It is validated on the first visited site/museum and/or the first journey on the city’s public transport network.

Please note the following:
- further discounts/free services may be available according to age and/or nationality and/or place of residence and/or profession, so make sure to inquire about them at the time of purchase- all connections to and from Fiumicino and Ciampino Airports are not included
- Roma Pass gives you the right to skip the line in the first 2 sites you visit. From the 3rd site onwards please apply to the ticket office for concession

WHERE TO PURCHASE IT

- online (max 4 cards, method of payment: credit card Visa and Mastercard, one transaction only a day - any 24 hours- from the same computer. The card collection will be possible starting from the fifth day after the purchase date)
- by calling the call centre 0039 060608 (method of payment: credit card Visa and Mastercard)
- at any of the museums and sites included in the Roma Pass
- at the Tourist Information Points (Punti Informativi Turistici, PIT) of the City of Rome: they are scattered all around the city centre, as well as at Termini central station

EMERGENCY MATTERS
Police control in the city centre is widespread. There is more than one police division in Rome and in the whole country: Carabinieri, Polizia, Guardia di Finanza and Polizia Municipale. Regardless of their uniforms and names, any of these can help you with matters of emergency.

MEDICAL ISSUES
Nearby Hotel Des Artistes and all over the city a number of pharmacies are open day and night. Here you can purchase many non-prescription medicines and homeopathic products to cure a range of mild problems, as well as consult with a pharmacist.Hotel Des Artistes does have a doctor on call for more urgent matters at a cost; alternatively there i san array of city hospitals in Rome where healthcare is believed to be to a very good standard. If you are a EU citizen you will not be asked to pay for the treatment that you receive (bring your ID and/or your National health card.
For persons travelling with medication that needs to be kept refrigerated there is a fridge in all rooms at Hotel Des Artistes. Temperatures might not be always cool enough as demanded by certain medicines: in this case we will be glad to store them for you in our cooler refrigerators in the bar area.
